Community Economic Recovery Fund (Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to download the application documents)
The Santa Barbara Foundation has created a new fund, the Community Economic Recovery Fund, which will be used exclusively for grants for food, shelter and/or medical care services to nonprofit groups that provide these basic services in Santa Barbara County.
A Request for Proposals (RFP) is directed at nonprofits that meet the critical needs described above as well as those that provide effective support services in the areas of substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, and child abuse.
Challenges in the economy have started to take a significant toll on our communities’ most vulnerable people, including those who have lost jobs and houses, or those who are having difficulty covering basic living expenses. This situation has placed excessive demands on social service organizations whose resources are strained.
In collaboration with our funding partners, the Foundation’s new fund will award grants of $50,000 and $10,000 to existing 501(c)3 organizations with the capacity to assess needs and allocate resources.
The Santa Barbara Foundation will make the following two levels of grants:
- Impact Grant ($50,000)
Impact Grants of $50,000 each will be made to organizations that provide food, shelter and/or medical care services and are experiencing an increase in demand for their services as a result of the economic downturn.
- Emergency Services Grant ($10,000)
Emergency Services Grants of $10,000 each will be made to organizations that provide services in the areas of substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, and child abuse. Grants will be made to organizations demonstrating an effective response to issues exacerbated by the economic downturn.
Both Impact Grants and Emergency Services Grants will support direct services only. Up to 10 percent of each grant can be used for organizational overhead.
