Animal Rescue Fund of Santa Barbara

The Animal Rescue Fund of Santa Barbara (ARF) was created to support the vital work of small, volunteer-driven, animal rescue organizations throughout the Santa Barbara area.

Our mission is twofold: to ease the burden on local shelters, and to support the rescue of vulnerable animals from overcrowded “high-kill” shelters outside the area.

Independent rescue groups, play a crucial role in reducing the number of pets in shelters, ultimately, lowering euthanasia rates. Often stepping in when shelters are unable to provide care, they give animals a second chance by offering independent medical treatment, safe foster homes, and the opportunity to heal. Many rescuers also intercept abandoned pets before they enter the shelter system, avoiding suffering from further trauma and illness. Historically a collection of small rescues are responsible for as many or more successful adoptions than local institutions combined, without the burden of overheads or salaries.

ARF provides grants—primarily, though not exclusively, to 501(c)(3) organizations—that support the following efforts:

  • Emergency or trauma-related surgeries
  • Medical treatments needed to prepare animals for adoption
  • Professional training and behavioral support for neglected or fearful dogs
  • Assistance programs that help seniors keep their pets at home
  • Rescue and rehabilitation of dogs and puppies from illegal or abusive breeding operations
  • Safe transportation of animals to foster homes or rescue facilities
  • Special projects benefiting wildlife, cats, and birds

Donations help us provide hope, healing, and homes to animals who need it most.

Thank you for supporting this life-saving work.
