Rooted Santa Barbara CountyOur Mission
We equip our community to prevent and address chronic disease through
food literacy programs that put food as medicine into practice—honoring
personal wisdom and cultural wealth so our whole community can Eat to
Thrive.
Rooted Santa Barbara County fills a critical gap in our community. Across our county, many families face barriers to nutritious food, preventive healthcare, and culturally relevant health education. Our hands-on, bilingual food literacy and lifestyle medicine programs help residents and care teams build the knowledge, confidence, and skills to use food and daily habits to support everyday and long-term health—reducing chronic disease risk, improving well-being, and strengthening community resilience.
We bring food, health, and community together through practical, accessible learning spaces that help our neighbors take small, sustainable steps toward lasting
health.
As a collaborative hub and partner to schools, libraries, healthcare clinics, and direct
service organizations, Rooted works to advance health equity by offering:
Bilingual, culturally resonant food literacy & food-as-medicine programs
Low- to no-cost hands-on classes, tools, and resources that help families and individuals learn how to access, prepare, and enjoy fiber-rich, plant-forward foods.
We prioritize community members facing the greatest barriers to good health, along with the healthcare and direct service teams who support them.
Community partnerships that equip healthcare teams and expand access and belonging
We work alongside trusted community organizations to ensure programs are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with the cultural strengths of each neighborhood—expanding healthy food access, healthcare engagement, and opportunities to thrive across the county
We’re on a mission to reduce the burden of chronic disease, advance health equity, and help every neighbor Eat to Thrive. When you invest in Rooted, you help bring food literacy, joyful cooking, and evidence-based lifestyle practices to schools, libraries, clinics, community centers, and healthcare teams throughout Santa Barbara County
