Our community has rallied together in remarkable ways to support our most vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 crisis. From generous individuals and businesses donating to the COVID-19 Joint Response Effort, to groups of makers organizing to create PPE for hospital workers and cloth face coverings for nonprofits in need, there are many different groups and individuals stepping up to help our community.
One such group is In This Together Events, a collective of passionate humans who design experiences that inspire a deep and authentic connection between individuals and our community. They are now using their unique skillset to help lift spirits while also raising funds for the COVID-19 Joint Response Effort.
The collective is led by local DJ Daniel Dubinsky, an ardent supporter of Santa Barbara’s nonprofit community. Since 2019, In This Together Events has been hosting an event series called Gratitunes, which invites community members to enjoy live DJ sets on the Hotel Californian Mirador Rooftop in support of nonprofit organizations based in the Santa Barbara area. So far, they have hosted two Gratitunes events with proceeds benefiting Save the Mermaids and Unite to Light.
“We strongly believe in the power of collaborative effort and human connection, and how we all simply want to be seen, loved, and appreciated,” Dubinsky said. “So we strive to instill that in all interactions and especially in the events we produce.”
With the outbreak of COVID-19 forcing our community to shelter in place, Dubinsky knew he wanted to do something to help people through this tough time. Unable to organize in-person events, he and the team at In This Together Events decided to host a weekly livestream DJ set titled Mindful Melodies, where Dubinsky plays peaceful, calming deep house music from his collection.
“The mission of the broadcast is to provide some relief from the quarantine mindset, to find headspace in a time of immense anxiety and uncertainty,” shared Dubinsky. “Music has always been the greatest healer for me in times like these, so with this broadcast I hope to share some of the most beautiful and healing music in my collection in an attempt to heal you.”
The stream is free to access and viewers are encouraged to contribute a donation to support local disaster response efforts. All revenue generated from the livestream – more than $600 so far – is donated to COVID-19 Joint Response Effort for Santa Barbara County, where it goes towards serving those most affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
The Mindful Melodies broadcast is held every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. PT, and is hosted on Twitch at www.twitch.tv/audiopool. You can view all past streams by visiting the stream’s broadcast library.
