PR Strategies For Nonprofits: How to tell your story to the press

August 12, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Seating for this workshop is limited!  Register HERE to reserve your spot.

We’ve all practiced an elevator pitch, but why is it that there are organizations that consistently have their stories told by the press? There’s a recipe for PR success and in this three-part workshop, you’ll learn the mechanics behind crafting your story and selecting the appropriate media outlets and contacts to pitch it to.

How do you serve up a newsworthy story on a silver platter? The first portion of the workshop will be interactive education.  We will then pivot to crafting newsworthy stories and practicing your pitch. Once you secure the press coverage, learn how you can leverage it to meet your organizational goals- from donor relations, employee retention and board engagement. For the final hour, we have invited a panel of local nonprofit leaders who have cracked the code on telling their stories to the press. They will share their insights.

Confirmed Panelists:  Nicki Parr (CEO, Women’s Economic Ventures), Shakira Miracle (Executive Director, SB Food Action Network), and Jaime Eschette (Director of marketing & Communications, SB Botanic Garden)

During this workshop, participants will:

  1. Learn what makes a story newsworthy
  2. Develop several topics worthy of press releases
  3. Identify media targets for your pitches and practice pitching
  4. Learn how to repurpose the news coverage via other marketing channels to achieve positive business outcomes for your organization
