Research shows that governance is enhanced, community connection and responsiveness increased, and the mission of the organization is strengthened when nonprofit organizations and the Boards invest in diversity, equity and inclusion. This involves practices much broader than just building a “representative” Board to guide the organization. It is about cultivating a Board that celebrates differences and seeks to build policies and a culture that draw on the unique insights and lived experiences of all its members.
