We are seeking a part-time Marketing and Communications intern to join our Marketing and Communications team as part of the Philanthropic Services department. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications

Position Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Intern works closely and collaboratively within the Marketing and Communications Team inside the Philanthropic Services (PS) department, as well as in support of the entire team at the Santa Barbara Foundation (SBF), to deepen community and donor awareness and understanding of SBF’s impact in Santa Barbara County, using skillful research, writing and editing skills. Additionally, the Intern supports a broad variety of communications functions that promote, enhance and advance the Foundation’s brand and fundraising.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Under guidance and in consultation with the Director, conceive, research, and write website content, press releases, newsletters, reports, impact stories, fundraising appeals, blogs, and other collateral and publications, appropriately adapting voice, tone and style to a variety of contexts.
- Employ best practices for copywriting for various channels, purposes, and platforms.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather and share stories of SBF impact in the community, maintain story banks.
- Maintain and upgrade brand guidelines, and support team to ensure consistent and vibrant brand expression across all public-facing communications.
- Develop content for advertising campaigns and paid media placements.
- Support editing of materials across the marketing team to ensure impeccable written communications.
- Track impact of media placements and other outreach.
- Collaborate within 4-person Marketing and Communications Team to brainstorm creative new approaches to expand and deepen all marketing and communications initiatives and projects.
- Provide marketing support for Foundation events and meetings.
- May provide additional support to larger P.S events and Meetings; may include set-up, refreshments, and clean-up.
- Maintain electronic files, photo library, and media lists.
- Work independently and collaboratively with the team and other teams across SBF.
- Support the Marketing and Communications team with other duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Genuine appreciation for the mission of the Santa Barbara Foundation and understanding of the issues that challenge the quality of life in Santa Barbara County.
- Basic competency in Office 365 and Adobe tools, with ability to complete tasks in these, and other similar programs, with little to no training.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work within deadlines with acute attention to details.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate within all levels of the organization.
- Team player with a positive, can-do attitude
- Ability to address competing priorities in a changing environment.
- Updating of SBF Outlook calendar as per organizational standard.
- Spanish proficiency preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree, or fourth-year undergraduate, or equivalent work experience preferred.
Work Environment:
- General office environment.
- Significant telephone and computer work (repetitive movement – typing).
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending and occasional lifting of light loads 50bs.)
- Shared office space in cubicle area with other office spaces. Ability to concentrate while others are talking and moving about in the vicinity.
- Hybrid work option may be available with supervisor approval. Employees must provide their own modem, router, and internet connection.
- Occasional travel in a car within Santa Barbara County (mileage reimbursed).
- Potential travel outside of County (car, plane, train) for seminars or conferences.
- Dog-friendly work environment (well-behaved pets, only).

This is a part-time temporary role with a commitment of at least 15hrs per week or more. Nonexempt $16-$20 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
