Uncertain Times: Guidance for Nonprofits

These are challenging and uncertain times for our nonprofit partners. Many have expressed fear about maintaining their vital programs and services. The Santa Barbara Foundation is closely tracking the impact of federal policy changes on our local nonprofit organizations and their ability to serve the needs of our communities and to sustain their operations. Please keep our Programs Team informed of any challenges you encounter with funding access or program continuity by contacting Vice President of Programs Liz Thasiah or Senior Director of Grantmaking Jenny Kearns. Your experiences help us advocate effectively and inform our donor community. 

We also strongly encourage you to take these important steps: 

  1. If you receive confirmation that your funding is at risk, please fill out [this form] to help The National Council of Nonprofits track the scope of affected programs and the potential impact on your mission and the people you serve. 
  2. Contact your congressional representatives by phone – this is the most effective way to ensure your voice is heard. Remind them of the vital impact your programs and services have on our community and how funding uncertainty impacts those services. 
  3. Connect with your banking partners now to discuss line of credit funding options. Loan interest rates may be lower prior to a funding freeze. 
  4. Keep your donors, board of directors and stakeholders informed. They need to understand how your work is affected and how they can support your work, including advocating for continued funding or providing critical financial support. 
  5. Consider joining forces with other nonprofits to amplify your message about the essential role of federal funding in maintaining community services. Monitor this page for additional resources and upcoming training opportunities.
